A Labor of Love Dr. Shila
and her husband Jacob truly believe in giving back to the
community. They believe that the purpose for our existence is to
make a difference in this world, to be of service to fellow
human beings.
They had been founders and active participants of Cleveland
Christmas Carole Group. The group sings Christmas Carols at
homes of friends and those who invite them. The 100% of the
money collected is given away for charity - assisting people in
third world countries to buy medicine, build houses, for kid's
education, for orphanages, etc.
Perhaps the best example of their insistence to give back to
community is the founding, building, and maintaining of
www.holisticonline.com
They embarked on this project nearly 9 years ago when Shila felt
that there was a need for a website to provide objective,
unbiased, information about all aspects of health (mind, body,
and soul) untainted by commercial considerations. The site was
built entirely from their personal funds. They haven't accepted
or solicited funds from anyone else. It was absolutely a "labor
of love" as Dr. Karen Olness, MD., the world renowned
pediatrician at Case Western Reserve University, would say
later.
Holisticonline.com has grown to be an impressive website with
clients from all over the world. Currently, it enjoys hits in
excess of 8 million/month from over 173 countries! It is ranked
as one the top sites for health on the internet. But the
philosophy hasn't changed since its founding. It is there to
provide a needed service to the humanity - not to make money. It
is truly a labor of love from a couple whose heroine is a frail
nun who toiled among the poor and downtrodden who often saw the
face of Jesus in her - Mother Teresa. |
