In 1979, Shila came to Cleveland, fresh out of
medical school, after a fairy tale wedding. She joined
Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit for residency
training in psychiatry. During her training at Henry
Ford Hospital, Shila got interested in hypnotherapy,
substance abuse management, and sleep disorders. After
completing her residency, Dr. Mathew moved back to North
East Ohio. She was granted the licenses to practice
medicine in Ohio and Indiana. She also passed the
American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Examination
and was admitted to the Board.
Dr. Mathew has undergone training on Medical
Acupuncture at McMaster University Medical School. She
is a member of American Academy of Medical Acupuncture.
Dr. Shila has also undergone training for GTT
acupuncture. GTT Acupuncture, combining a variety of
oriental medicine practices with western medicine, is an
effective therapy to treat chronic myofascial pain and
dysfunction. This technique, unlike conventional acupuncture, can provide enhanced, more permanent, and
dramatic clinical response in treating numerous
musculo-skeletal conditions.
Dr. Mathew had been practicing psychiatry for over 20
years. She held
admitting privileges in institutions such as Cleveland
Clinic, Summa Health System, etc. She is a staff
psychiatrist at Healthspan Physicians. Prior to this she
held positions in Kaiser Permanente Health Plan of Ohio,
Cleveland Psychiatric Institute, CIT
Mental Health Services, and at Nord Center in Lorain,
Ohio.
